You will not be able to register for graduation on the portal until you have received your invitation.
Guest tickets if ordered, will be available to collect from the Graduands Reception desk on the day of graduation. To find out in which ceremony you will be graduating, please see: Autumn 2011 ceremony list.
For information about the day, please see: graduation information (PDF-344 KB).
What to wear
You should hire (or buy) your academic dress at least 21 days before your degree ceremony.
Graduation is a formal occasion, so you should wear smart clothing beneath your gown. Men should wear a tie (most male graduands wear a suit) and it is useful for ladies to wear a buttoned blouse, which will make it easier to attach the hood to your clothing.
On arrival
If you arrive by car there will be plenty of car parking spaces available and you will be directed to a space by car parking attendants. You need to make your way past the large marquee on the front lawn to the main entrance. Once inside, the graduands will need to follow signs for the Graduands Reception where registration takes place and where tickets are collected. Pre-paid crèche tickets can be collected from the main Reception. Information sheets will be available which show the layout of the building and explain what will happen on the day. Guests should make their way to the Heyworth Room for refreshments while the graduands register and collect their robes.
Food and drink
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available before the ceremony for graduands and their guests. After the ceremony a light finger buffet will be served (sandwiches, cakes etc). There is no charge for food and refreshments. However, wine will be available to purchase by the glass.
Guests
Guest tickets can be ordered in the student portal, once ordered tickets will be available to collect from the Graduands Reception desk on the day of graduation.
The door to the marquee will open 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. Guests with tickets for the marquee should be seated in the marquee 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Unfortunately children under the age of 6 years are not allowed into the marquee for the ceremony.
Each ceremony lasts approximately 45-50 minutes. Guests should stay in their seats throughout the ceremony. Video recording is not permitted, however a DVD of the ceremony will be available to purchase.
Guests with disabilities or mobility difficulties
We can reserve seats (or spaces for wheelchair users) in the marquee for guests with disabilities or mobility difficulties. We can also send a parking permit which will allow you to park close to the main building. Please contact the Graduation Office at least three weeks before the ceremony for further information.
