Name:
Dr Richard Nunes
Job Title:
Lecturer
Responsibilities:
Areas of Interest:

Richard Nunes is an architect and planner whose current research and teaching is focused on local and regional economic development, and European and international spatial planning. His international research has included both international and UK policy-oriented projects. It includes research on Portugal and Brazil, as well as a multi-country study of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). In the past three years he has completed studies of industry transformation and regional economic restructuring in Portugal, and territorial governance at the interplay of knowledge and policy development in an enlarged EU. His current work includes the study of 'grassroots innovations' of the Transition Movement in the UK (London) and Brazil (Sao Paulo). It focuses on the social networks and learning processes, as well as the expectations and participation of actors and resources in these emerging niche practices. It seeks to understand how these niche grassroots innovations have framed problems, and how the coordination of individual actions and behaviour to solve them has been promoted.
