Profile
Victoria Edwards is a rural chartered surveyor and valuer with research, consultancy and teaching experience in natural resource management. She has extensive experience of course development in the UK and overseas. Victoria has held positions on various committees of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and has helped run training programmes for the examinations of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers. Her consultancy includes work on sustainable tourism and environmental assessment and communication.
Research Interests
Victoria's research interests are in common property resources, rural estate management and sustainability issues in corporate real estate. She is highly cited for her work on analytical frameworks for common property resources and is the author of Dealing in Diversity: America's Market for Nature Conservation (Cambridge University Press) and co-author of Corporate Property Management: aligning real estate with business strategy (Wiley). She has published widely in academic and practitioner journals.
External Work
Victoria has held a range of public appointments: she was a Forestry Commissioner (1999-2006) and Countryside Commissioner (1998-1999). She served as a non-executive director of Countryside Agency (1999-2004), where she was involved in the designation of the New Forest as a national park, and of the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute (2001-2005). In 2000, she was a member of the Burns Committee for the Inquiry into Hunting with Dogs. Victoria is currently a non-executive director of Forest Holidays LLP, Chair of the Audit and Risk Management Committee of Forest Research, a Trustee of the Ernest Cook Trust, and a council member of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. Victoria was awarded an OBE for services to the environment in the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2004.
