Overview

Planning Students on Field TripThis course prepares you for a career in town and country planning where you may be required to research and prepare policies and plans; negotiate and regulate development schemes; undertake community consultations; and present reports to committees and at public enquiries. In line with the academic strengths of the University of Reading in development and real estate markets, the MSc develops specialist knowledge and skills in 'development planning'.
This focuses on planning as it engages with economic and property development processes at all levels, from the local to the European. The MSc Development Planning and Research allows you to develop research skills and the opportunity to undertake in-depth dissertation-based research and analysis in this area.

Structure

  • The programme is designed within a 180 credit modular framework. Modules include:

    • Urban design and sustainability
    • Real estate economics
    • Planning theory, politics and practice
    • Real estate development
    • Projects in planning (site; negotiation; international)
    • Strategic Planning
    • Regeneration
    • Rural policy and planning
    • Property and environment
    • Comparative international planning
    • Research methods
    • Planning dissertation
    • Assessment

    Exams, individual and group assignments and a 10,000 word dissertation.

    Entry requirements

    Entrants to this programme are normally required to have obtained a good (normally upper second class honours) undergraduate degree in any cognate or non-cognate discipline.
