Undergraduate courses
I'm Roger Gibbard the Head of the School of Real Estate & Planning. I've been associated with the School for more than 30 years, I was an undergraduate student here myself in the 1970s and then, following a short period working in the industry, I have been a member of academic staff since 1989. I took over as Head of School in September 2010 and I'm enjoying the challenge to continue the history of excellence in both teaching and research which our School enjoys.
We offer courses of a high academic and professional standard and educate the future leaders of the real estate and planning professions. A significant number of our graduates achieve partner status or director level at a relatively early age. All our lectures are taught by academic members of staff or by visiting speakers from senior positions in relevant professions. You will be taught by some of the leading players in the field, both academic and professional.
Our undergraduate courses provide both a high quality degree and a direct route into the property and planning professions. They combine a unique blend of academic rigour and applied practical analysis, providing an excellent foundation for those interested in property, surveying, town planning and the environment.
We have a partnership agreement with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which gives all our students, regardless of their choice of degree course, entry to this profession. Students enrolled on the BSc Real Estate with Diploma or MSc Urban Planning and Development)can also gain entry into the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) after completing the Diploma or MSc.
We constantly review our courses in line with feedback received from our industry-led advisory boards and students. We have recently re-focussed our undergraduate programmes and introduced more project-based work using real world scenarios. This ensures that you will gain a high quaility education with practical relevance.
We offer four undergraduate programmes; see below for details. There is flexibility to move between programmes during the early stages of your study and so you only need to apply for one of our programmes on your UCAS form.
- BSc Real Estate
- BSc Investment and Finance in Property
- BSc Real Estate with MSc/Dip Urban Planning & Development
- BSc Rural Property Management
