Henley Golf Challenge 2011

The Sixth Henley Golf Challenge

The Sixth Henley Golf Challenge was held on Friday 17 June 2011 at Burnham Beeches Golf Club. After coffee and bacon sandwiches, our 22 eager golfers headed onto the pitch with wet weather gear in tow. They teed-off in groups of 3 (with one 4-ball) and played following the Stableford rules, full handicap. The weather stayed fine until groups reached the half way house, when the heavens opened, however spirits were not dampened!

This year's event was kindly and generously sponsored by our alumnus Robert Edwards of Stirling Business Solutions.

Our thanks also go to Tony Hand, our MBA alumnus who helped us with the scoring on the day. With a spread of scores from 7 to 37 points, three people shared the top spot. Tony explained that in Stableford, if there is a draw, the back 9 is viewed next, which then managed to separate the trio as follows:

1st Place Winner, Richard Sarsfield-Hall and Robert Edwards1st place: Richard Sarsfield-Hall, MP27 alumnus. This was Richard's 4th consecutive attendance 37 points

2nd place: Ron Cruickshank, Distance Learning MBA alumnus 37 points

3rd place: Bryony Moore, Full-time MBA alumna 37 points

Longest drive and Nearest to the Pin: Jonathan Rigby, Distance Learning MBA alumnus

For the first time this year, we had a fun furthest from the pin competition, which was gracefully won by John Sutcliffe, guest of our alumnus Paresh Suchak.

Richard commented on his win: "I would just like to thank you and all the Henley team plus Rob for making the Henley Golf Challenge such a great day - I wore my champion's jumper with pride at our Captains' Day on Saturday. No doubt playing with fellow MP27 and G7 team member Alun Oliver was my lucky charm. The course at Burnham Beaches was fantastic, a good and fair challenge and in great condition. I look forward to defending my title next year."

As the only lady on the "podium", Bryony added: "Many thanks to the entire alumni team - it was a smashing day. I really enjoyed playing with my team and it was even more special coming in the top three. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, which is down to your great organisation and constant good humour. Brilliant! I look forward to next year."
