About the School of Economics

A leading international School of Economics

Bank of England - research expertise in EconomicsEstablished more than forty years ago, the School of Economics at the University of Reading built its reputation as the world's premier centre for teaching and research in international business.

In line with the changing global economic environment, we have continued to evolve. Our expertise currently spans areas ranging from econometrics to macroeconomics, banking and finance to development economics and from emerging markets to spatial and housing economics.

We are home to around 30 full-time academic staff, spanning six leading research centres, the majority of whom are widely published and research active experts in their respective areas. Our staff also undertake research projects and provide consultancy services to multinational organisations, governments and international agencies.

The important role of Economics

Economics lies at the heart of the modern world and is a subject critical to both business success and effective policy making, never more so than at the present moment. Our key role within the world-ranked University of Reading (The Times) directly reflects this, as well as the increasing need for specialist expertise in economics and related fields within every type of organisation.

We offer an established range of undergraduate degree and postgraduate masters courses, designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Our students are inspired to engage with, analyse and understand the global economic environment from a wide variety of perspectives. We also welcome high quality PhD candidates from all over the world.
