Staff profiles
Henley's staff deliver the rigour we need for our teaching. Yet Henley is not an ivory tower. Our academics thrive on real life research questions and our practioners have vast experience of the real world of work. Combined they bring specialist insight into the business challenges they teach, complementing each other's work. Henley people are international, both by passport and by experience.
Professor Emilio Herbolzheimer: At Henley since 1997 where he has been subject area leader of Strategic Direction and Business Transformation, head of the strategy faculty and more recently director of international studies. He works also as consultant to international firms in the area of corporate and international business strategy. In recent years his research has focused on strategy in small and medium sized enterprises and cross-cultural management. As a Spanish and German national he speaks five languages.
Professor Mike Pedler: Professor of Action Learning at Henley, Visiting Professor in the Centre for Leadership Development at the University of York, and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Management Learning at Lancaster University. A leading academic and consultant on management and leadership issues, he works with people in organisations on learning and development processes and practices and is particularly known for his work with action learning, the learning organisation and leadership development. He is the author of A Managers Guide to Leadership (with John Burgoyne & Tom Boydell) McGraw-Hill 2004.
Dr Giampiero Favato: For over a period of nearly two decades, Giampiero has had increasing financial and strategic responsibilities in the Life Science industry. This was ultimately as a Director in one of the leading research-based pharmaceutical companies, where he was leading global teams dedicated to innovation and change. He is currently involved in the governance of non-profit health research organisations, serving as a Board Member of SEFAP, the epidemiology research centre of the University of Milan, and the Phoenix Stem Cell Foundation for Human Life. Giampiero is a Member of the Corporate Finance Faculty at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and a Visiting Faculty at the "Statale" and the "Bicocca", the two public Universities in Milan.
Professor George Tovstiga: A Canadian and German national, has extensive international experience as amanagement educator, industry practitioner, author and consultant. George's current research, teaching and consulting focus is in the fields of competitive strategy, strategic innovation and organisational change. George is a full time member of Henley's faculty.
Dr Jonathan Davies: A Client Director at Henley delivering change and leadership tailored programmes to both private and public sector organisations. Jonathan has worked with clients including; Office for National Statistics, Redrow, GallifordTry, Design and Build, BAE Systems, Bechtel, British Standards Institute (BSI), George Wimpey. His main interest lies in the field of management learning and the ways in which it can be effectively transferred into the workplace.
Kate Hudson: An expert in leadership, change, team building and interpersonal skills. Prior to joining Henley Kate worked for ICI/Zeneca and has worked with an extensive range of UK and international companies. Kate is Lead Client Director at Henley.
Professor Moira Clark: .Professor of Strategic Marketing at as well as being Director of Henley's Centre for Customer Management. She also serves as a consultant to a number of leading UK and European companies. Her major area of research and consulting is in customer management, customer retention and internal marketing in the service sector. She has worked extensively in the area of culture and climate, its impact on retention and loyalty and the critical linkages between employee behaviour and customer retention. She has judged the prestigious Sunday Times Customer Experience Awards.
Dr Patricia Bossons: Director of Henley's Coaching Services, and a Chartered Psychologist. She established Henley's Coaching Services, to provide an accredited coaching training programme from a leading business school. Her book 'Mentoring, a Henley Review of Best Practice' was published in 2004. Patricia designs and delivers executive education programmes to a wide range of blue chip corporate and public sector clients.
Dr Scott Lichtenstein : His areas of expertise include sstrategic leadership, personal values of executives and managers and their impact on performance, strategic orientation, performance. Originally from California Scott has also worked in Brussels for 3 years in European affairs. Scott is a Client Director at Henley.
Professor Steve Downing: Prior to joining Henley Steve worked at London Business School, Cardiff Business School and in the pharmaceutical industry. As a consultant he advises a range of commercial, public sector and not for profit organisations.Steve teaches across a range of Henley programmes, has published articles in numerous leading business and management journals and is a regular contributor at international conferences.
Dr Tim Osborn-Jones: Subject Area Leader for Personal Development at Henley and leads personal development and career management workshops. Tim has worked with corporate organisations including Toyota, Christian Salvesen, Siemens and Lloyd's of London.Formally a Research Associate at Henley Tim has explored the hanging patterns of organisation and employment, future work and talent management.
Visiting faculty
Martin Aylward: MBA, DMS, FInstD, FCIM, MCIPD. Associate Executive Professor.
Martin qualified in biomedical sciences with the UK National Health Service before changing to a career in sales and marketing management with the pharmaceutical industry. He then returned to full-time management education, taking a Diploma in Management Studies and then MBA at Cranfield School of Management.
Over the next twenty-two years he worked as Chief Executive of The Financial Times Business Information Services, Kestrel Data Services and then as Managing Director of Henley Distance Learning (HDL) – a company founded originally by Henley Management College.
Following the acquisition of HDL he changed career to business and management development consultancy in 1995. In this capacity he continued to be closely associated with Henley and the Financial Times group as an Associate Tutor for management qualification programmes in the UK and Europe. Then in 2001 he joined Henley, initially as part-time tutor for Foundations of Management with the Strategy Faculty and then in a full-time appointment with additional responsibility as Client Director for the Consortium MBA Programme. Later he became Subject Area Leader for Strategic Direction and also acted as Academic Registrar for Henley in the period leading up to the merger with the University of Reading
Martin is now an Associate of Henley Business School. He continues to teach Strategic Direction and has overall responsibility for the MBA part 3 examination. His other interests are marketing and corporate governance and he has written and lectured extensively on a wide range of management topics.
Alison Hardingham: Visiting Executive Fellow and a well-known and widely published chartered psychologist, specialising in individual development, leadership and change at a personal and organisational level. Alison is an approved executive coach for a number of large organisations and her latest book, 'The Coaches Coach' from the CIPD was published in late 2004.
Jane Cranwell-Ward: A Visiting Executive Fellow at Henley, Jane has worked with a wide range of organisations, helping them manage major change issues and helping managers deal personally with change. These organisations have included CAA, NATS, Aviva, Diageo and Eurostar. Jane is the author of several books on Leadership, Mentoring and Stress Management. Prior to working at Henley, Jane was a senior lecturer in Psychology and Organisational Behaviour at Kingston University. Jane began her career at Harrods in London.
Jane Upton: A consultant and executive coach, Jane heads the Praesta organisation in Spain, coaching senior and high potential managers in multinational organisations, and ambitious entrepreneurs. Her work with senior teams helps them find the focus, style and behaviours that will enable them to accelerate their performance. Jane, a Visiting Executive Fellow at Henley, lives in Spain and works in English and Spanish.
Jon Stokes: Previously Director of Tavistock Consultancy Service, Jon is a Director of organisational and management development consultants Stokes & Jolly Ltd.
Nick Rints: A member of associate faculty at Henley and an experienced and effective communicator, Nick has created and run successful simulations around the world for the past 30 years.
Peter Nelson: Has delivered programmes at Henley for over ten years and consistently achieves high commendation from the programme members. He has been advising organisations and delivering training on presentations, negotiating, pitching and gaining business for many years. Peter delivers courses and conferences all over the world for many blue chip companies and high profile individuals. He also trains partners at several of the largest law firms in the City of London and advises the largest property cost consultants on business pitching.
Phil Radcliff: Specialises in supporting senior teams and individual managers in the management of change. Phil's international career involved working in the engineering, food and drink industries, predominantly in organisation development roles, culminating in the management of a series of mergers in the formation of Diageo and a period of time as the HR Director of United Distillers and Vintners. Following this, Phil established a network of specialist consultants to support major businesses and the voluntary sector. He focuses on the coaching of senior management and facilitation of Top Teams managing organisational change. He is a visiting faculty member at Henley.
Robert de Board: Author of three books: 'The Psychoanalysis of Organisations', 'Counselling Skills' and 'Counselling for Toads', Robert is a Director of Robert de Board and Associates.
Steve Robinson: Has designed and taught on a wide variety of open, customised and qualification programmes specialising in corporate finance. Recent clients include; Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Penguin, IKEA, The Carphone Warehouse, Wates Group and Rank Hovis McDougall. Steve is author of 'The Financial Times Handbook of Financial Management'.
Dr Suzanne Pollack: An independent consultant who has worked for and with Henley on executive and qualification programmes for over five years. Suzanne's areas of expertise include: leadership; teambuilding; strategic consulting; sustainable development; personal development and coaching. Suzanne is qualified to work with a range of psychometrics and she is a Master NLP Practitioner. Suzanne's clients for the School have included: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young; Henkel; News International; Siemens; Christian Salvesen; Lufthansa; Merck and Deutsche Bank.
William Halton: Formerly the Principal Consultant Tavistock Consultancy Service, William is an independent organisational consultant and coach.
