The Leadership programme

Executive education programme at Henley Business School

The Leadership programme at Henley is designed to help you develop your personal leadership skills. You will learn to inspire and lead others by understanding yourself, how you relate to the people you work with and your own leadership context.

Programme content

The highly practical, six-day Leadership Programme explores leadership and your relationship to it with the emphasis on raising workplace performance. We believe leadership is a very personal challenge so you will be asked to complete psychometric profiles and a bespoke 360° feedback instrument based on Henley's own leadership research. During the intensive, five-day residential programme time will be spent in small groups and one to one exploring the implications of these for your leadership effectiveness. You will be introduced to a range of leadership models reflecting current thinking at Henley and elsewhere and you will apply these to your own situation. Some ten weeks after the residential programme the group comes together for a sixth day to review the experience of delivering a personal development plan for practical change back in the workplace and to set future goals.

The learning process includes lectures, discussion groups, case studies, coaching, individual feedback, team and group based activities and experiences.

Who is the programme for?

Directors and senior managers with five or more years' experience leading individuals or teams in the public or private sector. Participants are likely to be measured in terms of their effectiveness in influencing others throughout the organisation.

Benefits to the individual

The programme represents a significant personal commitment of time and energy and participants make big steps in their understanding of themselves as leaders. Participants go away with the ability to continuously evaluate their own leadership effectiveness but also with a plan and a powerful commitment to improve that effectiveness. The experiences of others in a range of different organisational settings bring alternative - often revealing - perspectives.

  • Gain an understanding of diversity in leadership practice and listen to industry role models.
  • Know what it takes to envision, inspire and motivate others.
  • Understand how to manage yourself better to achieve your goals
  • Recognise the signs of stress and take effective measures to reduce the effects of stress on yourself and those you lead.
  • Develop a practical - results focused - personal development plan for application back in the workplace.
  • Receive personal coaching
  • Use the post-workshop review day to refine your work practices for the future.

Benefits to the organisation

Leadership is a powerful contributor to the overall effectiveness of an organisation and increasingly organisations are looking for leaders who can deliver high performance and transformational results. This programme helps good leaders raise the bar and understand what it takes from them personally to deliver this. This programme can mark a significant milestone in participants effectiveness as leaders and subsequent career progression.
