The John Madejski Centre for Reputation

Who We Are

The John Madejski Centre for Reputation, founded by Professor Keith MacMillan, is a dedicated research centre based at Henley Business School, one of Europe's leading business schools.

History of the centre

1945 Henley Management College established. A charitable educational trust and one of Europe's leading business schools, its primary aims are:
1) to provide management education and
2) to conduct research that has a positive impact on business and society.
1996 In keeping with Henley Management College's second aim, Professor Keith MacMillan established a research activity which was concerned with the investigation of organisational reputation from a relationships perspective.
2000 The Research unit was designated as a Research Centre and named 'The Centre for Organisation Reputation and Relationships' (CORR).
2004 The Centre was renamed 'The John Madejski Centre for Reputation' to more accurately reflect the centre's focus and its growing links with industry.
2008  Henley Management College merged with the University of Reading to create Henley Business School at the University of Reading.

Over the last 8 years, the Centre has developed a rigorous methodology, which has been successfully tried and tested, to measure both the strength of stakeholder relationships and the reputations of organisations. Commencing from the belief that organisations can only achieve long-lasting and real success if they have collaborative and trusting relationships with all its stakeholders.

Since the Centre's conception, the research team has helped to improve numerous stakeholder relationships with various organisations, including relationships in both the commercial and non-profit sectors. Previous clients have included Canon UK, three major Building Societies in the UK and NICRO South Africa. One of the strengths of the Centre is its experience in dealing with a diverse range of relationships, cultures, organisations and stakeholder groups.

The Centre is associated with the 'Reputation Institute' (a network of institutes concerned with reputation issues). This enables the Centre to draw on the knowledge and experience of leading universities in the USA, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Sweden and South Africa.

We are funded in part by donations and in part by commissioning research projects from organisations. There are five major staff members, Dr Kevin Money, Dr Steve Downing, Carola Hillenbrand, Nuno Da Camara and Chris Gilbert. We also draw on the substantial resources at Henley Business School, including other members of Henley faculty who bring in their expertise to assist, for example, with the analysis of the research.
