Employing students

The University is keen to promote high quality work-based learning opportunities for students. Temporary employment could be given to students to provide opportunities for valuable learning experiences in the workplace.

It is recognised that students are being employed as part of the University's commitment to developing the employability skills of our student body. We would encourage managers to give students every opportunity to improve their work skills and recognise their worth.

A student could be employed if you have a vacancy where the type of work is:

  • Casual
  • Cover for illness or absence
  • Seasonal cover for times of peak activity or increase in workloads

The employment policy for Reading students is that work is limited to no more than 16 hours per week during term-time.
