Ranked among the UK's top schools for career prospects

At Henley Business School we recognise that postgraduate study is an important investment in your future career and we are therefore very proud of our outstanding graduate employment record. We are consistently rated among the UK's top business schools for career prospects in all of the major league tables, reinforcing the value of a degree from Henley and our reputation amongst employers worldwide.

Henley Business School is ranked 4th in the UK for careers in 'accounting and finance' (The Times Good University Guide, 2012)  and 8th in the UK for careers in 'business and management' (The Guardian ersity Guide, 2012). The University of Reading is ranked 3rd in the UK for employability in the autumn 2010 International Student Barometer, an independent survey of 203 universities worldwide.

Further reflecting the Henley Business School's reputation, a survey of over 1,500 UK business professionals by The Centre for Brand Analysis named Henley as a 'Business Superbrand'. Henley is placed above schools including Warwick, Judge (Cambridge) and Saïd (Oxford) as well as more than 200 leading corporate organisations.

Graduate roles and salaries

A degree from Henley Business School can provide a route into many areas, including banking, consultancy, finance, human resources, IT, marketing and of course, general management. More experienced alumni can be found in senior management and executive level roles worldwide.

According to the Association of Graduate Recruiters the average UK starting salary across all sectors in 2010 was £25,000 or £29,000 among the top 100 employers.

Work placements and internships

Our Masters programmes are challenging, full-time masters degrees so an embedded work placement does not form part of the programme. However, a small number of students each year do enjoy short-term placements with leading organisations, during holiday periods or after graduation. Others may work with organisations when completing their final project or dissertation.

Employment in the UK during and after your studies

Some of our students choose to undertake part-time employment to help fund their studies and the Reading area offers a wide range of opportunities for part-time work. However, please remember that a masters degree at Henley is a challenging, full-time programme lasting 12 months. Alongside lectures and tutorials, a lot of time will be spent studying, researching and working on assignments.

Please see working in the UK, the UK Border Agency and the UK Council for International Student Affairs for further information on working in the UK during and after your studies.

Careers Advisory Service

The University's award-winning Careers Advisory Service is open all year round and provides a high level of ongoing support and information to students and alumni. Events including careers fairs, employer-run workshops, CV advice sessions and mock interviews prepare you to apply for graduate roles.

Lifelong learning and development

Henley Business School's range of programmes is designed to support your professional and academic learning and development throughout your career. As a graduate you may continue on to complete a PhD, the Henley MBA or an executive development programme in the future.

Graduate view

'Reputation is an important consideration when choosing a business school and the Henley name is both respected and well-known. I began applying for graduate jobs at the end of the first term of my Masters with the aim of starting employment as soon as I had finished study. By starting this early I was able to submit my project, go travelling for a month and come back to start with the BBC at the end of September.'

HR Graduate Trainee, BBC
