The John H Dunning Centre for International Business at Henley Business School
Introduction to the Centre
Since August 2008 the triple-accredited Henley Business School at the University of Reading has been home to the John H. Dunning Centre for International Business, formerly the Centre for International Business and Strategy (CIBS). The Centre was renamed in 2008, in honour of the late Professor John Dunning and stands as one of the world's premier research centres in the field. Internationally-renowned members of the Centre include Professor Alan Rugman, Professor Mark Casson and Professor Rajneesh Narula.
Research in the Centre
For 40 years the University of Reading has helped define the research agenda in the field of international business. Further developing and employing the 'Reading approach' to the analysis and evaluation of international business, the Centre's straddles the fields of international business and strategic management and balances the necessity of a deep theoretical grounding with the added value of a strong applied focus. Research focuses on areas including:
- The strategies of multinational enterprises
- Foreign direct investment
- Corporate social responsibility
- Globalisation and international business regulation
The Centre relaunched its discussion paper series in 2011, with the aim of improving the public availability of research undertaken by researchers affiliated to the Centre.
Events in the Centre
Biennially the Centre hosts one of the largest academic conferences worldwide in the field of international business. The recent 2011 International Business Conference, which took place on 11 - 12 April 2011, proved highly successful.
Each year the Centre also welcomes a number of speakers from industry and academia, with events also open to students and the public. Please see further information on speakers and events.
Programmes and research opportunities
Henley Business School offers an established MSc International Business programme, welcoming around 30 new students each academic year. A new masters programme, MSc International Business and Finance, has launched for students entering in 2012. An international business component has also recently been introduced to stage 2 of the Henley MBA and a wide range of PhD opportunities in International Business and Strategy are available.
