BA Business and Management is an undergraduate degree programme designed for students with or without prior academic experience of the subject.
BA Business and Management explores the key themes and emerging challenges facing business in a global context. You will closely examine the internal and external factors which affect any organisation, and have the opportunity to focus on streams including marketing, strategy, accounting, international business, organisational behaviour, human resource management and ethics.
Supported by the School's Centre for Entrepreneurship, modules in enterprise and entrepreneurship are also offered, inviting you to take part in business planning exercises and a competition to develop and potentially even launch your own small business. The Brand in practice module is also a distinctive element of this programme. Taught in conjunction with experts from the corporate sector, you will enjoy the opportunity to both engage with leading professionals in the field of marketing and to apply your knowledge and skills to tackle real world situations.
A one-year paid work placement during year 3 provides you with an outstanding opportunity to further develop and apply your knowledge and skills whilst embedded within a successful organisation. This experience is designed enhance your CV and provide you with a distinctive edge when entering the highly competitive graduate job market. In some cases a successful placement may lead to the offer of a permanent role within the same organisation upon graduation.

Year 2
- Finance for managers
- Management skills
And a choice of at least one from:
- Marketing management
- Organisational behaviour
- International business strategy
- + up to 3 optional modules
Year 3
- Paid work placement (1-year, full-time)
Students who have completed two years of study and for whom a work placement is unsuitable, can progress directly into the third (final) year of study, converting this into a 3-year degree programme.
Year 4
There are no core modules in the final year of BA Business and Management. You will select from a wide range of optional modules, focusing on the areas of greatest interest and relevance to you.
Professional accreditation and career prospects
Graduates of BA Business and Management can apply for exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). You will graduate with knowledge and professional skills, and a heighted sense of commercial awareness that will be immediately transferable in a business environment.
BA Business and Management can provide a route into many areas, in both the private and public sectors, including accountancy, banking and finance, marketing, human resources, consultancy and general management. Example graduate roles include marketing executive, trainee chartered accountant, financial analyst, HR officer and management trainee.
