Sky boss says private enterprise key to challenges facing todays society

jeremy_darroch_thumInvestment and an environment for wealth creation are crucial to economic recovery. This is the view of Jeremy Darroch, Chief Executive of Sky, highlighted in his fascinating lecture at the Henley Business School this week.

The talk, part of the 2010 Henley Business School Keynote Lecture Series kindly sponsored by Accenture UK, focused on the crucial role of business as the UK emerges from the worst financial crisis in almost a century, and enters one of the most interesting periods in recent political history.

Jeremy Darroch highlighted the lessons that businesses must learn from the crisis, and the role that private enterprise can play in helping to address the long term challenges facing our society.

During his talk Jeremy said: "It's my firm belief that this is an Age of Opportunity for business, because an enduring recovery will only come through commercial investment and an environment for wealth creation. But we must first overcome what I would call a 'trust deficit'. For too long business has been the bogeyman. So it's up to all of us in the private sector to create the pro-business atmosphere that will allow us to contribute fully to life in the UK, and then to have that contribution recognised."

Henley's Keynote Lecture Series sees contemporary leaders from a range of disciplines share their knowledge and insight with an audience of senior executives, who want to explore the challenges facing today's organisations and their leaders.
