Management Professor Receives Wadsworth Book Prize

Professor Peter Scott receiving his award from Business Archives Council President Sam TwiningProfessor Peter Scott, Director of the Henley Business School's Centre for International Business History at the University of Reading, has been awarded the prestigious Wadsworth Prize for the best book in the field of British business history.

The Prize is awarded annually by the Business Archives Council (BAC) to an individual judged to have made an outstanding contribution to the study of British business history in that year.

Professor Scott's awarding winning book, Triumph of the South. A Regional Economic History of Early Twentieth Century Britain (Ashgate, 2007), explores British economic history from the industrial revolution to 1939 from the perspective of regional development.

The book argues that the decline of the provincial regions of `outer-Britain' can be explained, at least in part, as being the product of the economic and political power of the City of London - the growing competitive advantage of which progressively undermined the industrially-based economies of northern and western Britain.

Professor Scott said: 'It is a massive honour and pleasure to receive this award and I owe a great debt of thanks to many people and institutions who helped me with my research.'

Peter received his award at a ceremony held at Unilever House in London.
